Walsh Bay Arts Precinct
The Walsh Bay Arts Precinct project delivered a public arts and cultural precinct for the community on Sydney’s famous waterfront. The redevelopment seamlessly integrated heritage with modern state of the art facilities.
BRIEF
Approximately 20 tonnes of mild steel was used in the fabrication of the awnings to Pier 2-3 and Pier 4-5
Due to the size and intricacies both awnings were delivered on different dates as wide loads from our Illawarra workshop to the final location in the early hours of the morning were required. With a limited time period for installation, between 5am and 8am the installation methodology was paramount to the successful result.
Both awnings were integrated into heritage structures, if you look closely at the images you will see where the support steel penetrates the heritage structure. The penetrations were concrete filled then painted by an artist to replicate the colour and feel of the existing heritage bricks and mortar lines.
Access within a heritage building required detailed planning and methodology statements to ensure heritage elements were not damaged during the installation of the structures
